Microneedling
What is microneedling for skin rejuvenation?
Microneedling is an effective collagen induction treatment that uses an electrical device to power tiny surgical needles to create controlled micro-injuries into the skin. The small wounds are triggering a restorative process in your skin, creating new collagen and elastin production.
It is a safe, effective, minimally invasive procedure that has gained a lot of popularity due to its proven effectiveness. It has greatly evolved in the last 20 years, from the drum-shaped devices used by surgeons to the modern automated, electrical, needle controlling puncturing pens used currently. Pioneered by plastic surgeons as a scar treatment, micro-needling has become an extremely popular treatment largely due to its proven results.
What skin conditions can be treated with microneedling?
Due to its powerful collagen induction mechanism and clinically proven results, microneedling treatments has become very popular in a large range of conditions.
Not only it creates new collagen and elastin, but it reorganizes the old collagen fibres and triggers the creation of new capillaries in your skin, resulting in a tightening effect of your skin. This makes it one of the best non-invasive treatments for skin rejuvenation, reduction of fine lines and wrinkles, and pore size reduction.
In this category we need to include stretch marks as well, which is a direct result of your skin losing its elasticity, condition successfully treated with microneedling.
Micro-needling is also very popular in treating post-acne scars and scarring, one of the first conditions it was first created to treat. Studies have shown very good scar improvement, especially after a minimum course of 4-6 treatments.
Acne vulgaris and problematic breakouts can also be treated with microneedling. It targets the sebaceous glands and helps treat the condition by reducing their sebum over production which is main cause of acne.
Due to the versality of the latest devices and their adjustable depth, microneedling can also be used for hyperpigmentation, with visible results especially when the treatment is combined with a range of specific chemical peels.
One of the latest conditions treated with the help of microneedling is androgenic alopecia and alopecia areata which essentially means hair loss of various causes. Studies have shown results comparable results with classical use of topical agents, and greater results when microneedling is combined with the hair growth formulations.
Lastly, there is scientific data showing that medical microneedling in combination with mesotherapy cocktails are extremely useful in treating rosacea.
