What is rosacea?

Rosacea is a skin disorder that causes redness on the nose, chin, cheeks, and forehead and flushing. If it not treated, the redness may become more intense and spots can appear. Small blood vessels may also become visible and red solid bumps and pus-filled pimples can develop. The disorder can cause the nose to appear enlarged with a swollen appearance called rhinophyma. Rosacea can also affect the eyes, causing them to feel irritated and to appear red or watery.
The majority of individuals who suffer with rosacea have fair skin tones, with complexions that are prone to blushing. Although the causes of this relapsing condition are still unknown, there are consistent signs to look out for and we should avoid certain triggers like: sun and wind exposure, emotional stress, hot/cold weather, heavy exercise, alcohol consumption, hot baths and beverages and spicy food.

The most typical characteristic symptom of rosacea is redness. Flushing is most likely to affect the face, particularly the nose, cheeks, forehead, and chin. In severe cases, redness will spread outwards from the nose to each cheek, presenting as what is known as the ‘butterfly pattern’. It can also cause the eyelids to become sore and crusty. Rosacea flushing is usually accompanied by a flare up of condition-specific spots: small, sore pimples which appear on the affected areas.
This common skin concern causes consistent redness and spots, which is inherently tenacious in nature and impossibly difficult to soothe with home remedies. Generally, it exclusively affects the facial area, not spreading beyond the jawline. Often likened to a severe, prolonged breakout of adult acne, it is a lesser-known yet particularly problematic condition in its own right.
Flare-ups of rosacea are hard to conceal. Makeup only worsens the condition to create a vicious and seemingly inescapable skincare cycle.
Although causes of rosacea are unknown some associate it with the following causes:

  • Blood vessel disorder
  • Skin mites
  • Psychological factors
  • Malfunction of the connective tissue under the skin

What’s the best treatment? SkinGlow Clinic uses several techniques to treat this condition.

  • LED and calming facials. They use a non-invasive light technology. They can target the desired areas as face, hand and body. It has a positive effect in rejuvenation and other conditions such as rosacea, fine lines, loss of elasticity, sun damage and acne. A multitude of light frequencies can be combined with other anti-inflammatory therapies and bespoke facials to help you achieve a glowing and calmed skin with no downtime.
  • Chemical peels If you want to treat inflamed, red, rosacea-prone skin, our personalised chemical peels will help you obtain a brighter, smoother complexion.
  • Microneedling pens are medically engineered skin needling devices that use disposable surgical grade micro-needles that vertically pierce the skin and create multiple micro-injuries. This will encourage and harness your own body’s innate ability to repair itself naturally and produce new collagen. This technology will create micro-channels and create a gateway for active mesotherapy ingredients to be delivered to the deeper layers of the skin as this technology significantly increases the absorption of topical products. This treatment can significantly improve wrinkles, dyspigmentation, skin texture and rosacea.
  • Mesotherapy is a non-surgical treatment capable of improving the majority of cosmetic issues by providing small quantities of active ingredients like vitamins, minerals and hyaluronic acid directly to the area where they are needed. In conventional mesotherapy these ingredients are administered via microinjections into the dermic layer of the skin where they act as slow release medication. The method will improve the appearance of wrinkles and tone and texture of the skin will become more youthful. The vitamins stimulate skin cells, especially fibroblasts to increase production of collagen and elastin, as well as to neutralise free radicals. Mesotherapy is been proven to positively improve local circulation as well.
